Located about 7 km
from the main city of Darjeeling, the Peace Pagoda or Japanese Temple is
designed to establish unity, harmony and brotherhood among people of different
communities. This Peace Pagoda is famous for its calmness and beauty. From this
place one can see the panoramic view of Kanchenjunga peak and other snow-capped
mountains. Peace pagoda is also an ideal place for peace and nature lovers. The
Peace Pagoda was built by Japanese Buddhist monk Nichidatsu Fuji. It was
inaugurated on 1 November 1992, almost 36 years after the foundation stone was
laid. There are four avatars of Buddha including Maitreya Buddha inside this
stupa. This peace pagoda stupa is an attractive tourist spot for tourists
coming to Darjeeling.
